On this page, you will be able to find examples of my storyboarding and animatic works from previous projects I have been involved with, including both professional practice and self-led production work. My previous animatic works have made use of software such as Storyboard Pro and the Adobe Creative Suites (Animate, After Effects and Premiere), as well as Clip Studio Paint EX.
During July of 2023, I worked with Scott Patrick on his original concept animation of "Blak N Blu" as a storyboard and animatic artist. Scott provided me with the details and character designs of 'Blak' and 'Blu', along with some base thumbnails that he had produced as a guideline for his initial concepts, which I worked with for the final animatic, as well as various character sketches and storyboards. Working on this project with Scott was an absolute delight and I was happy to find that my work on the project was well-received by members of the team, with animatic editor Louie Corrins in particular praising the work done on the boards.
This animatic features usage of strong language.
After work on Blac N Blu had ended, I wished to get some more experience working within Storyboard Pro while I still had access to the software. As such, I decided to produce an animatic using some of my own character designs, with the audio used being lifted from the CheapShow podcast episode "Sonic Showcast Showdown", featuring comedian Sooz Kempner alongside Paul Gannon and Eli Silverman. This test was to get some more experience in more unique forms of staging, as well as storyboarding within comedy and spoken word formats.
More recently, I decided to do some work on a personal animatic based on older television bumpers and idents. Using some audio from Nickelodeon's branding as a baseline, I worked to make a small animatic in my own animation style. The video below goes into the production of this animatic from the initial roughs to the cleanup stage.
In early 2023, I was contacted to help provide visual work for a pitch dedicated to a series of educational short films for the BBC. As part of this visual work, I helped to provide storyboards, animation and character design work for use within the pitch for overall approval. My work on the visual identity of the project was highly praised by both the production company I worked with (Preston Road Studios) and the commissioner working on behalf of the BBC.
Sensing a pattern with all this Nickelodeon stuff on the portfolio, yet? I swear, it's not intentional. These storyboards were produced for an intended community-made trailer to promote Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl at the fighting game event 'Frosty Faustings' in 2023, though the trailer went unproduced due to timing constraints. There was no direct involvement made with any of the major companies related to the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl video game or with the Frosty Faustings event itself, as this was a solely community-led effort on the part of the intended client to promote their own smaller side-event within Frosty Faustings.
Storyboarding work for a short social media video produced to commemorate the 6th anniversary of Yellow Mouse Studios, with the concept work and main animation and design production on this video being produced by myself as well.
Whilst working on my student film, The Legend of Zodac, I produced various storyboards for scenes and character deaths that went unused in the final version of the film. However, I feel that these scenes still hold up as storyboards in of themselves, in terms of character slapstick and cartoony design, with some scenes being well-received for their humour (particularly those with the chef character) during the storyboarding process of the piece. The following boards shown are roughs produced that were later used for animatics, before eventually being used as a reference for the final version.
